Abstract: The core monitoring and surveillance system of Paks nuclear power plant has been replaced recently with a new version of the system VERONA utilizing virtualization technology and GPU accelerated numerical computations. In the new system, the process variables are monitored by the visual engine of a new simulation platform SIMTONIA (SIMulation TOols for Nuclear Industrial Application). In this paper the hardware and software architecture of the new system is presented in details enlighten the advantages of the application of stateof- art computational technologies.
