Performance Analysis of Various Topologies in HVDC Networks

pdf PDF

ABSTRACT

The evolution of methods for renewable resources utilization and need of connectivity among far distant resources with electrical grids have pushed the emergence of HVDC networks with various design topologies. This paper attempts to represent overall picture of HVDC network topology and analyse performance of different topologies containing unique combinations of polarities, return paths and multipoint connections. A detailed test system is modelled for the study of their time domain fault response for both pole to pole and pole to ground fault, and their transmission efficiency. Modelling and simulation of various components including transmission line, MMC converter is done in PSCAD-EMTDC program. Results of the simulation have been presented and concluded with recognition of the best topology for HVDC networks.
